SupTronics X1015 NVMe Add-on for Raspberry Pi 5

The SupTronics X1015 is an NVMe SSD expansion board designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 5, enabling you to connect full‑size M.2 NVMe drives (formats 2280, 2260, 2242, and 2230) via the PCIe 2.0 or 3.0 interface. It supports transfer speeds of up to 8 Gbps, making it ideal for high‑performance storage applications.

Engineered to mount neatly on top of the Raspberry Pi 5, the board includes a pass‑through 40‑pin GPIO header for continued access to all GPIO pins, ensuring compatibility with other HATs. Its cut‑away design also works seamlessly with the Raspberry Pi Active Cooler for optimal heat management.

For a secure installation, the mounting holes and included standoffs allow the expansion board and Pi to be firmly attached. Integrated LED indicators display both power and read/write activity, giving clear feedback on drive operation.

You can boot your operating system directly from the attached SSD, resulting in faster application launches, quicker data transfers, and smoother performance — excellent for web servers, media centers, or NAS setups.

Compatibility

As with all NVMe adapters for Raspberry Pi 5, some M.2 NVMe SSD models may have limited compatibility — especially those using Phison controllers. SupTronics advises avoiding the following models (and users may find additional ones noted online):
