SupTronics X1005 Bottom-Mount Dual-NVMe Add-on for Raspberry Pi 5

The SupTronics X1005 is a compact dual-NVMe expansion board for the Raspberry Pi 5, enabling you to connect two M.2 SSDs in 2280, 2260, 2242, or 2230 formats. Featuring a PCIe 2.0 interface, it delivers transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps for high-performance storage applications.

The X1005 connects directly to your Raspberry Pi 5’s PCIe interface and utilizes an ASMedia ASM1182e PCIe switch chip to manage data flow across its two PCIe lanes with full PCIe Gen2 support. Designed to mount underneath the Raspberry Pi 5, it keeps the GPIO header completely accessible for other add-ons while leaving the top surface free for the Raspberry Pi Active Cooler or additional top-mounted hardware.

Included mounting holes and standoffs securely hold both SSDs in place while promoting effective heat dissipation. Onboard blue LED indicators provide instant visual feedback for drive read/write activity, making system monitoring effortless.

The SupTronics X1005 is fully compatible with the Raspberry Pi 5 and supports up to 8TB total storage capacity using two 4TB M.2 NVMe solid-state drives across multiple form factors including 2280, 2260, 2242, and 2230. It provides fast PCIe 2.0 5 Gbps data transfer for quick boot times and efficient file operations while remaining fully compatible with the official Raspberry Pi Active Cooler. Blue LED indicators display power and drive status, and the board features an integrated high-performance PCIe packet switch along with two high-efficiency DC/DC step-down converters that deliver a maximum of 6A to power both SSDs. Its bottom-mount design allows simultaneous use of your favorite HATs, with reliable power supplied through pogo pins and FFC connection for worry-free operation.

Compatibility

As with all M.2 NVMe adapters for Raspberry Pi 5, certain SSD models — particularly those using Phison controllers — may encounter compatibility issues. SupTronics specifically highlights poor performance with the WD Blue SN550/SN580 series, WD Green SN350 series, and WD Black SN850 series.
